Greenbelt, MD--August 1, 1998--Empress
announces support of Suns JDBC API for the Empress RDBMS. Via the
Empress JDBC Interface, Web server developers and GUI developers
can take advantage of a host of tools and capabilities to display,
retrieve and format information residing on Empress relational databases.
Web developers can easily create Java servlets and CGI programs
to manage Empress databases. GUI developers can utilize the Java
platforms freely-distributed Abstract Windowing Toolkit (AWT) as
a powerful applet and graphical application development environment.
With the Empress JDBC Interface, programmers
have the ability to create servlets and CGI programs using the Internet
application development environment provided by Empress Hypermedia.
"Empress offers products well-suited for
Internet computing via a robust database and development tools.
Fusing both the Internet computing technologies of Empress and the
Java platform, the Empress JDBC Interface enables the creation of
a powerful applications development environment" states Njai Wong,

MILPITAS, CALIF. - August 19, 1998 - Tatung
Science & Technology, Inc. (TSTI), celebrating more than 10
years of commitment to the SPARC systems market, today introduced
the COMPstation? U60-2360, a new Sun Ultra 60-compatible workstation
powered by dual 360 MHz UltraSPARC-II microprocessors. The COMPstation
U60-2360 broadens Tatung's use of the PCI I/O bus as an integral
new design component of the company's SPARC-based workstations and
servers, which are installed at tens of thousands of user sites
throughout North America.
Now available, the new system is offered in both
tower and rack-mount configurations. The towers support high-performance
graphics and Java-development applications, while the rack-mount
models are designed to suit the needs of Internet Service Providers
(ISPs), OEMs and industrial, commercial and communications applications.
Tatung's most powerful workstation, the COMPstation U60-2360 leverages
the dual 64-bit UltraSPARC-II processors to deliver performance
of 15.4 SPECint_95 and 27.8 SPECfp_95*.
The COMPstation U60-2360 supports one 33 MHz,
32-bit PCI device; two 33 MHz, 64-bit PCI devices; and one 66 MHz,
64-bit PCI device. A 64-bit horizontal UPA slot is available for
add-ons such as Creator graphics cards. Standard configurations
include two, 360 MHz UltraSPARC-II processors; 128 MB RAM; and 4
GB of hard disk storage. Other standard features consist of Ultra
Wide SCSI; two serial ports; one parallel port; and a 100-BaseT
Ethernet interface.
The tower configuration is equipped with a PCI
graphics card, and it offers up to five drive bays for incorporating
two, standard 3-1/2-inch hard drives; a 5-1/4-inch CD-ROM drive;
a 4- or 8mm tape drive; and another peripheral, such as a 3-1/2-inch
floppy drive or other device that will fit into a 5-1/4-inch slot.
The rack-mount configuration, designed to utilize network storage,
features slots for two, one-inch, 3-1/2-inch drives. An add-on disk
array storage subsystem available from Tatung as an option enables
users to add peripherals as needed. With hard disk capacity of 72
GB or more, the disk array makes the COMPstation U60-2360 robust
enough to support departmental or small enterprise Internet or Intranet
applications. Other options include up to 2 GB of RAM; up to 18
GB or more of hard disk storage; additional PCI graphics cards;
Creator 3D Graphics; ATM connectivity; Ultra Wide SCSI; and a wide
range of monitors. In addition, TSTI is offering monitors in 17",
